During a recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Herman Gref, the president of Sberbank, Russia largest bank, Putin stressed the importance that comes with not falling behind in technological developments. Amongst these developments mentioned was blockchain technology.
December saw Sberbank form a bond with the Federal Antimonopoly Service in Russia as a means of including blockchain in their storage and document transfer systems. Furthermore the bank has plans to open up a cryptocurrency exchange in Switzerland.
During the meeting Herman Gref spoke out on the need for programs that will specialize in training individuals in blockchain. Given the worldwide the technology is having across the world it is a must in Russia. He also stressed that the government should regulate the technology but not prohibit it from the people. The innovation needs to promoted.
Putin went on to question why his country needs this innovation. They have been blessed with so much natural resources. These include oil, gold, diamonds, gas, coals and numerous different kinds of metals. Putin followed this statement saying that blockchain developing successfully in Russia and that Russia needs to have its own burst.
It’s clear that Russia will be pushing forward with blockchain technology, as Putin stress the importance by saying, “The Stone Age did not end due to the lack of stones, but because new technologies appeared. We need to take the maximum advantage of these factors to guarantee this progress into the future.”
